Erika Thompson found her love for singing at the age of four while singing in her family’s church choir. She provides beginning, intermediate and advanced voice instruction to ages 10 and up. Erika offers a variety of musical styles, including classical, musical theatre, Disney, pop, rock, country, and liturgical. Lessons are catered to the student’s interests and needs and incorporate ear training, healthy vocal technique, performance skills, sight-reading, music theory, music history, and foreign languages/diction.
Each lesson begins with warm-ups based around the repertoire students are working on. Warm-ups can include tongue twisters to work on diction, stretching to address tension in the body, breathing exercises and breath technique, vowel shaping and intonation practice. If the student is learning to sight-read music or studying music theory, one new topic is taught and any homework is covered before singing through the student’s repertoire. Tuition for lessons is $30 per half hour, $45 per forty-five-minutes, and $60 per hour lesson, billed monthly. Erika offers two recitals per year, and many students also participate in a handful of music competitions throughout the year. Currently, Erika offers lessons on Monday through Wednesday in the afternoon and evening.
