The Steinway O is referred to as the "living room grand piano" because of its suitable size. At 5'10 3/4", the Model O is the largest of Steinway’s “small grands.” This piano is large enough to satisfy those who demand a full, rich sound, yet sized to fit in almost any home. This piano was manufactured in 1982 and is in excellent condition. Created like the soundboard of violins to give a free an even response throughout the entire scale, the Steinway Model O soundboard is 9 mm thick in the center and tapers to 6 mm as it approaches the rim and outer case before being double crowned. This design permits complete freedom of movement while displacing a greater amount of air, creating a richer and more lasting tonal response. Close-grained, quarter-sawn Sitka spruce - which has unusual stability and vibrance under stress and vibration - is used exclusively for the soundboard of this piano.
